Coherence



Across many natural systems, coherence appears when parts of a system begin to organize in relationship with one another.



In physics, coherence can describe waves that align in phase. In biological systems, coherence appears when organisms regulate internal processes in ways that allow stability and adaptation. Complex systems often move toward coherence as interactions among their parts begin to stabilize.


What is striking is that this pattern is not limited to the natural sciences.


Human experience sometimes moves in similar ways. Thoughts, emotions, and perceptions that once felt scattered may gradually begin to align. Insight emerges. Decisions become clearer. Action no longer feels forced.


Reflection often plays a role in this process. When attention settles, patterns that were previously hidden can become visible. What once appeared as unrelated experiences may begin to reveal a common structure.


In this way, coherence is not only a property of physical systems. It is also something we can observe within the unfolding of a human life.


Science offers language for recognizing such patterns in the natural world. When those patterns begin to appear across different scales of experience, they invite deeper attention.
